Out of Africa

Out of Africa is suitable for a family of four, a couple, friends who don’t mind sharing a bathroom or for someone travelling on their own.

40 Something

“40 Something” is decorated in 1940s style, inspired by the parquet floors. Its picturesque exterior, with the colourful ox wagon on its veranda, has featured in many photos

Victoria House

Victoria House inspires romance and is often a honeymoon choice, with its four poster bed in the main bedroom.

Etienne van Heerden

The internationally renowned scholar and novelist, Etienne spent his early days on a farm just outside Cradock. This little house is his “skrywershuisie”.

Opstal

Opstal’s name comes from the Afrikaner-farm house style it depicts.

Mays

Sleep in a bed rumoured to have belonged to Cecil John Rhodes, or curl up with a book in the large living room, with lounge and dining room facilities. The garden at Mays is beautiful and features beautiful heritage roses.

Harry Potter

How cool is it that Harry Potter is buried in Cradock, and that we have honoured him by naming a Tuishuis after him?

Lion House

Lion house is named after the Lion Statue on the roof truss, which is dedicated to Töger von Abo Flemmer, a Danish lion catcher, who lived in this house in Market Street in the 1840s. He captured wild animals (including lions) which he sold to the zoos in Europe.

It all started in the 1840s – restored to its former glory in 1983

Escape the present and enjoy the historically rich surroundings of Market Street in your own Tuishuis.

Sandra Antrobus, the owner and restorer of Die Tuishuise & Victoria Manor, has decorated each house and hotel room in its own distinctive theme, reminiscent of the lifestyles of the English and Dutch Settlers, and the ox-wagon artisans that lived in Market Street at the turn of the century.  Period prints and antique furniture create elegant historic spaces.  All the houses have names, some commemorate local writers like Olive Schreiner, Etienne van Heerden, Guy Butler and Iris Vaughan.

Houses range from two to six sleepers and consists of either one, two or three bedrooms that are equipped with double or two single beds as well as either one or two bathrooms. The units are equipped with a kitchenette that has a bar fridge and microwave as well as basic self-catering facilities.  Guests have access to free and safe parking, DSTV, air conditioning (on request), fireplaces (on request) non-smoking rooms and free Wifi. We have a laundry service.  Die Tuishuise has a wheelchair access room. We are child and pet friendly, please remember to request pet friendly accommodation.

There are more than two dozen Tuishuise. Each house has its own beautiful personality
Here is a taste of what to expect from some of Die Tuishuise:
